If you have any questions about the service which are not addressed here, please do not hesitate to get in touch.  I will be pleased to discuss them with you.

Q.  What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a safe, natural state of focused awareness and increased coFncentration. Healing by trance has been acknowledged in some form in almost every culture for centuries. This state is similar in nature to that achieved when we watch TV, drive or are absorbed in an activity. There is no definitive 'feeling' for hypnosis but most describe it as a pleasant state of relaxation, almost like daydreaming.

Q. How does it work?

The intense state of relaxation makes it easier for your mind to absorb motivational, reinforcing or reassuring information.  This means that following a course of hypnotherapy you will be able to think and feel differently about a situation or a memory without the same negative intensity or emotion. In fact you could find that you may have difficulty remembering the negative emotion at all.

Q.  How do I know I will wake up?

Hypnosis is never about control. If you want to come out of hypnosis you simply choose to do so. If the Hypnotherapist disappeared or fell over and knocked themselves out you would simply come back to full consciousness in your own time. We go in and out of hypnosis and other altered states of consciousness (e.g. daydreaming) many times a day but we always come back out of them easily and naturally.

Q. Can everyone be hypnotised?

Well, not quite. In fact, any person who actively decides to resist hypnosis cannot be hypnotised against their will. But that rather defeats the point of seeking hypnotherapy.  Otherwise, some people enter hypnosis more readily than others but anybody who is willing can receive effective hypnotherapy.

Q.  Will I still be in control?

Yes, you are in complete control at all times. The primary function of the unconscious mind is to protect you, and if any suggestion were to be made that you would not ordinarily agree with, you would return to full conscious awareness immediately.

Not only will you be in control but you are aware of what is happening at all times and can come out of hypnosis at any time simply by choosing to do so.

Q.  Can I be made to do something I don`t want to?

No, you are in complete control at all times. If any suggestion were to be made that you would not ordinarily agree with, you would return to full conscious awareness immediately.

Q.  How do I find a good therapist?

Only use therapists with professional qualifications.  Professional bodies such as The General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR), overseen by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council, requires members to undergo and pass a recognised course of professional training and subscribe to a code of professional ethics.  This gives you added protection and a reassurance of quality.

Q.  Are there any side effects?

You can experience a similar trance whenever you are deeply absorbed in something, be it reading,  listening to music or anything deeply absorbing. Hypnotherapy is a totally natural, safe method of treatment, has no unpleasant side effects and is suitable for just about anybody.

Q.  How many sessions will I need?

The aim of a good hypnotherapist is to help you in as few sessions as possible. One long session (in most cases) is usually all that is required for smoking cessation therapy (with a free back up session in the unlikely event that it is required) . For all other therapy you will usually feel and see the benefits in around 2-3 sessions (or less).

Q.  How much does a session cost?

An individual hypnotherapy session costs £53.50. A stop smoking therapy session costs £130.00 and should enable you to become an non smoker (in the rare circumstances that you may wish to have a follow up smoking cessation session, then this will be free of charge).
